Friends of East County Arts, Inc.awards $600 to winning entrants in the 3rd Annual Jewelry Competition, hosted by Terry Whyte of Golden Artistry Jewelry Design, for the Grossmont Union High School students.
The Grand Prize Winner, Ashley Charlton, a junior and AP student at West Hills High School in Santee, received $125 from Friends for her pendant entry "Cascade." In addition, her design was created by Terry Whyte, Master Goldsmith, and presented to her at the May 5th event.

2010 East County Schools Earn $5,000.00 from Friends . . .
2010-KidsArtShow El Cajon, CA . . . Elementary and middle school kids will exhibit their artwork at the 20th Annual Kids Art Show to take place at Westfield Parkway, May 14th through 16th. East County district schools have been invited to participate in the event. Friends of East County Arts, Inc, a philanthropic organization dedicated to raising funds to support the visual and performing arts in the Greater East County of San Diego, will award blue ribbons to the kids displaying their artwork and $5,000.00 to participating schools.
This art show provides East County students the opportunity to express themselves and view their art in a public forum. The public is invited to visit the display and view the efforts of these young artists. Admission is free.
Each participating school will select up to six pieces of artwork to be exhibited and submit a letter of intent explaining how they would use any funds they might receive for their art program. A panel from Friends of East County Arts, Inc. will decide on grants to be awarded based on each schools letter of intent.
Friends of East County Arts, Inc. is a local non profit organization that has provided more than $500,000.00 in awards, scholarships and grants since it’s beginning in 1984 to individuals, schools and various art organizations throughout the Greater East County of San Diego.
A reception awarding the grants is planned for May 14h at 6pm Westfield Parkway located at 415 Parkway Plaza, El Cajon. The public is invited to attend the reception. Admission is free.
2010 East County Garden Tour Has It All
El Cajon, CA . . . Six spectacular gardens are featured in the Friends of East County Arts, Inc. Fifteenth Annual Garden Tour to take place Saturday, April 24th from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
These splendid gardens offer a tremendous variety of settings and each garden is lovingly planned and cared for by its owner.
Two of the star attractions on this year’s tour are ‘Ali,’ a strapping 3 year old Clydesdale who was born the day prior to the 2007 garden, tour and Magnum, a retired San Diego police patrol horse, who’s beat was Balboa Park.
Shopping has been added to this year’s tour. Ten professional crafters will be featured with items that relate to gardening. “We are even providing a Hot Dog cart and other refreshments so that guests can purchase snacks while touring,” says Tour Director, Linda Riolo.
The tour is sponsored by Friends of East County Art, Inc. a philanthropic organization of 100 members volunteering time and energy to further the development and growth of the performing and fine arts in East County. To date, Friends has contributed more than $550,000.00 to art-based programs in the community. All monies collected from this event will benefit these programs.
