Outstanding VAPA Teacher Awards

Please note: The honoree must be present at the FECA General Meeting on
May 23, 2026 in order to receive the Award. Site administrators and nominators are highly encouraged to attend and support each winner.

Nomination Process

An individual school may nominate more than one VAPA teacher. Previous
award recipients are not eligible.
Complete the nomination form on this website (www.friendsofecarts.org)
Nominations must be received no later than 5:00 PM on February 10, 2026.
Each nomination form must be completed in its entirety or the nominee will not be considered for recognition.
Finalists will be notified by March 12, 2026.
All finalists will then schedule one (1) in-class visitation with the selection committee.
Finalists are expected to prepare demonstrations containing both active teaching and student participation within their lessons.
Visitations will take place between February 16 and February 27, 2026.
The three (3) Honorees will be notified by email no later than March 18, 2026.
Honorees MUST be present at the FECA General Meeting on May 23, 2026, in order to receive their $1,500 award. It is highly recommended that a site administrator and the nominator be present as well to join in the celebration.
Details and further information will be given upon Honoree selection.

Nominator, please briefly respond to each question below:

1) List all the subjects your nominee is currently teaching including the number of classes. Nominees must have at least a 3/5 assignment.

2) How does the nominee demonstrate expertise within the field of his or her VAPA specialty? This may include exhibitions, performances, community leadership or artistic productions for or by students. Give specific examples.

3) What strong instructional practices does the nominee use to enhance a student’s creative strengths, motivate learning, and ignite a passion for the arts including outcomes, products, and student feedback? Give specific examples.

4) How does the nominee advance the cause of art education for all students? This may include student and teacher leadership roles, advocacy, professional experiences in and outside the classroom, and any training that enriches the teacher’s ability to motivate and encourage students.

5) In what way does the nominee motivate and inspire others including students, colleagues, and community leaders? Consider parent and student feedback, and input from colleagues and administrators. Give specific examples.

6) Is there any additional information that you would like to add that will help the committee in their choices of finalists?
